The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is widespread today, but did you know it was only signed into law in 1990? This comprehensive civil rights legislation was groundbreaking in providing equal opportunities for all Americans, regardless of their disabilities. The ADA prohibits discrimination against those with disabilities, and guarantees them equal access to employment opportunities, to purchase goods and services, to participate in government programs, and more.
This year marks the 26th anniversary of the ADA and the equal rights it provides. At ESCOT Bus Lines, we are committed to upholding the civil rights legislation put forth in the ADA, and we encourage customers with disabilities to travel with us. We provide assistance boarding and departing the bus at all stops, and gladly make accommodations for all your specific needs.
We provide priority seating for patrons with disabilities, as well as lift-equipped buses for mobility devices. Customers who require a wheelchair or other mobility device have the option of remaining in and traveling in their mobility aid in a secured area, or to safely and securely stow it under the bus. Canes or smaller aids can also be stored in the overhead compartments.
We also happily accommodate customers who travel with personal care attendants or service animals. We will reserve two seats next to each other for you and your care attendant when you travel with us. Your service animals are welcome to ride with you on our coaches, as long as they do not occupy a seat or obstruct any aisles. We can also accommodate patients who travel with medical oxygen on board, providing you room for canisters on board as well as with your stowed luggage.
